On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, staff and students at Harlem Elementary and Jr/Sr High Schools eagerly participated in wearing YELLOW to support Chloe Main for Rare Disease Day, in conjunction with the Yellow Brick Road Project. In January 2022, Chloe was diagnosed with HNRNPH2, a neurodevelopmental disorder. Chloe is 1 of 130+ in the world to carry this super rare gene. Friday, March 3rd, proved to be an exciting day at Harlem Elementary as Chinook Masonic Lodge members, Bob Sharples and Ben Hall, handed out rewards to the top Accelerated Readers in every classroom, kindergarten through 6th grade. One of February’s I Love To Read activities involved taking Accelerated Reader tests on each book the students read. On Friday afternoon, November 11th, Harlem Elementary staff and students held an assembly to honor and give thanks to all of our community veterans. Mr. Lowell Long, American Legion Department of Montana Commander, took on the task of Master of Ceremonies, as well as teaching the 6th graders the proper etiquette of handling and folding the American flag. On Tuesday, March 10th, Harlem Rodeo Drive Bus Route students were treated to a yummy pizza party. It has taken the riders since the 2019-20 school year began until now to finally fill in all of the pizza puzzle slices, and they are the first bus route to earn this distinction so far this year. As part of the month-long "I Love To Read" festivities, Harlem Elementary held its annual Family Literacy Night on February 20th. The exciting event was sponsored by 21st Century Community Learning Center and the Wrap-Around program. The Montana Council for Exceptional Children (MCEC) held their annual conference in Missoula, MT on February 19th, 20th, and 21st. Each year, children with disabilities are recognized for their accomplishments through the 'Yes I Can!' International Awards Program.
