Chinook high school senior Jake Norby has signed a NAIA Letter of Intent to further his football career by playing Wide Receiver for the Presentation College Saints. Norby helped lead the Chinook Sugarbeeters to the Class C Eight-man football championship this past November and was a content threat to score with each reception. The District 9C leading Box Elder Bears were guests in the Turner gymnasium Thursday evening as the 4-4 Turner girls and the undefeated Bears met once again. Turner has played all four teams at the top of the conference very well early in each contest. The Harlem girls varsity basketball team battled their way back to a 5-5 record following two victories this weekend, including their first in the District 2B. Friday the girls hosted the Shelby Coyotes of the District 1B and earned a hard fought 40-37 win. Saturday the team traveled to Poplar where they again were victorious 48-40. Monday afternoon the Chinook Sugarbeeter wrestling team visited the Meadowlark Elementary for 'Beeter Buddy Day'. This is the first year that the wrestlers and grade schoolers have shared and it was a huge success. A total of 92 Meadowlark students joined the wrestlers and team managers for a good time. Speech and drama teams from 19 schools descended on Chinook High School last Saturday for an invitational tournament hosted by the local speech and drama club. Our husband, father and grandfather, Don Martin, was called Home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, January 9, 2016. A memorial service was held on January 14 in Cut Bank. Fred (better known by many as "Montana") Bevolden went home to the arms of his Savior on 28 November 2015, following a hard-fought battle with cancer. He spent his final days with his wife, son, and daughter by his side. He was born in Havre, Montana to Chester and Mildred (Straight) Bevolden. His favorite childhood memories were those that involved riding his beloved horse Buttercup around the Montana countryside with his best friend Dale. Harry W. Olson passed away peacefully with family at his side on January 14, 2016 after a short battle with congestive heart failure. He was 89 years old. Harry was born in Havre, MT on February 11, 1926 to Fred and Martha (Solomon) Olson. His family ranched in the Bear Paw Mountains where he and his other siblings (2 brothers and 5 sisters) learned to appreciate the land and its livestock. Louise Webb Kenny died at home in Havre early Friday morning, January 15, 2016 with her husband of nearly 60 years at her side. She was two week short of her 96th birthday.
