Harlem Elementary's Disney Showcase kicked off Wednesday afternoon (January 25th), with a concert performed with the 4th grade class singing all of the Disney movie favorites for their families, friends, and school mates. Thanks to the generosity of the Montana Masonic Foundation and Chinook's Masonic Lodge #50, band and choir students at Chinook High will soon receive new music folders to be used during performances. CHS music teacher Levi Williams, also a Mason, wrote the successful grant application that resulted in the $1000 grant award from the Montana Foundation. The Blaine County 4H Teen Leader Club includes members from all of the local clubs. The group is preparing to host their Annual Valentine Day Dinner and Dance This Sunday, February 12th. The event takes place at the Blaine County Fairgrounds in the Commercial Building. Dinner is being served from 4-6 p.m. with Spaghetti as the main course. These unusual ice 'sculptures' were photographed just below the weir (open water in the background) at the Chinook Water Treatment plant. Workers at the plant explained the unusual formations result when water coming over the weir is forced up through cracks in the ice, refreezes and builds up. A scholarship is again offered by the North Central Montana Cattle Women and the North Central Montana Stock Growers. This annual scholarship is available to high school seniors and college students completing their sophomore year. Interest from a memorial fund honoring the memory of deceased members is contributed to by the Cattle Women. Stock Growers supplies their portion of the scholarship through fundraising efforts and interest from money left from the Livestock Protective Association, a forerunner to the present Stock Grower...
January was a busy month for a dozen volunteers from five churches. The volunteers met and made many Days for Girls kits for impoverished girls in 100 countries throughout the world. In many countries these girls do not have any feminine hygiene products to use forcing them to miss school 5 days out of every month that amounts to 2 months a year. Days for Girls is a non profit organization that distributes these kits, made by volunteers like this group, helping young girls and women anywhere...
Chinook High School is putting on a fundraiser, for science teacher Ms. Wood and study Hall advisor Ms. Olson. The students chose five staff members for the community to vote on by putting money in a designated jar. Voting runs from February 1st to February 27th. The top two staff members with the most money in their jars will have their heads shaved at a school assembly on February 28th. The Chinook Meadowlark and Junior High Schools recently held the annual Spelling Bee as students competed with the hopes of advancing to the Blaine County Spelling Bee on February 21 in mind. Hogeland Lutheran Church had their Annual meeting Sunday at the Church. They enjoyed a potluck dinner and then had their meeting. Some of the best wrestling in the state happened this last Saturday when ninety-four Wrestlers descend on Shelby for divisional wrestling. The thirteen different weight classes ranged from three to thirteen Wrestlers per class. The 138, 145 and 152 weight classes each had 16 man brackets.
