High Schools in Turner, Hays/Lodge Pole, Harlem and Chinook held their first spring sport practices on Monday. The Track in Turner, pictured above, is covered in snow, but does feature a few swaths, that for the most part, have been cleared. All the local track and field teams will have to deal with similar situations as they prepare for the upcoming season. Darren James Black Wolf Sr., 49 passed away at his home on February 25, 2019. Darren was born on May 20, 1969 to Ernie DeMarrise and Cheryl Black Wolf in Havre, Montana. Harris Gail Rock (Sitting Rock Iyaiyodanga), 88 passed away on March 7, 2019 at Northern Montana Hospital. Harris was born on July 23, 1930 to Gus (Above & Beyond) and Nina (Blue Hawk Women) Rock at the Ft. Belknap Hospital in Harlem, MT. Mary Ann (Crazy) Allen, a member of the Gros-Ventre tribe, passed away on March 3rd, 2019 of natural causes. Mary Ann was born on November 9th, 1930 to Joseph and Mary (The Boy) Crazy. She married William “Babe” Allen in November 1953. Together they raised their nine children. They worked side by side farming and ranching. Patricia Gaye Vargas (Sargent), 74, passed away January 16th, 2019 in Zephyrhills, FL. Pat was born to Gaylord Sargent and Gladys Obie Sargent on May 25th, 1944. I Love to Read Month activities culminated for Meadowlark Elementary students on Monday afternoon, March 4, during a school assembly when winners for the Accelerated Reader reading challenge were announced for each grade.
