Montana Association of Clerk & Recorders and Election Administrators - March 31, 2017 As efforts to revive Senate Bill 305 failed Friday, Montana’s elections administrators turned their attention to the forthcoming special election on May 25. SB 305, introduced by Sen. Steve Fitzpatrick (R-Great Falls) would have given Montana counties the option to hold a mail-only election to replace Rep Ryan Zinke. Despite the support of nearly all of Montana’s 56 counties and successful passage through the Montana Senate, SB 305 was tabled in the House Judi...

  • Pippi the Clown will make 12th annual appearance at the 2017 Blaine County Fair

    Steve Edwards|Apr 12, 2017

Reporter’s note: Each time I attend the Blaine County Fair I’m impressed with the gaggle of kids following around a lady who’s wearing wild face makeup and outlandish, bright colored clothing. She’s usually pulling a cart full of surprises or has a bunch of surprises laid out on a table to entertain kids. Whatever she’s doing, the younger set is drawn to her like a magnet. Folks familiar with the Blaine County Fair, particularly if they have little kids or grandkids, know this ‘Pied Piper of Montana kids’ as Pippi the Clown. Thinking abou...

  • Bear Paw Meanderings

    Robert Lucke|Apr 12, 2017

On this day in 1945 President Franklin D. Roosevelt died in Warm Springs, Georgia. He had just been sworn in for a fourth term in January of that year. It was war time and that was the reason President Roosevelt ran for a fourth term in the first place. He was very ill at that time. In fact the ceremony of celebration of his fourth term and the swearing in of him for that term was held at the White House, not the capitol as he was too ill to go through all the ceremonies that going to the capitol would bring. Then he went on a long and...

  • My Answer

    Dr. Billy Graham|Apr 12, 2017

Q: I admit I’ve always been kind of a “Christmas and Easter” Christian, since those seem to be the only times I manage to make it to church. What would you say to someone like me? A: The first thing I’d say is that I’m glad you at least make it to church twice a year! Even if God and church don’t mean very much to you right now, at least they must mean something—and in our increasingly secular age, this is noteworthy. But I’m also glad for another reason: God could use these two days to speak to you and give you a new understanding o...

  • What 'Cher Point

    Robert Lucke|Apr 12, 2017

I am a happy man. It has taken a lot of years but finally my team, Gonzaga, got to the final game. I know they lost to North Carolina 71 to 65 but that did not matter at all. Those of you who read these rantings regularly know that for years I have picked my Zags to go all the way. They never have until now. And to think that Oregon was also in the final four! It boggles the mind. I may not live to see it but one day there is going to be a western final game. It is going to happen! For now, I know of some who made huge amounts of money on...

The team faced the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks in a dual on Thursday and then headed to Great falls over the weekend where they would get a chance to see a lot of action. In Chester the four varsity returners, senior Nicole...
