School Levy and Trustee Elections were held last Tuesday around Blaine County. In Harlem Valerie Blackcrow received 132 votes and Clayton Talks Different 126 and were elected to serve three year terms. Kathleen Adams received 152 votes and will serve a one year term. In Chinook Daniel Dahl defeated incumbent Joel Pruttis 169 votes to 158 and will serve a three year term. All three Levy’s in Chinook passed as well. Blaine County Undersheriff Frank Billmayer was a recent presenter at the Chinook Senior Center. His topic was “Identity Theft, SCAMS and Identity Protection and Recovery.” Center Director Kristi Norby said, “We only planned for a short presentation before we served lunch. JUMP, the interdenominational youth group for junior and senior high students in Chinook, has staged a raffle for several weeks to help pay for a new heating unit for Wallner Hall. Funds raised through the raffle and other donations will be used to replace an aging and failing furnace in the event center adjacent to the United Methodist Church. The Jr High and High School track teams of Turner had their district meets in Havre this past week. Many of the High school athletes qualified for Divisionals to be held this week in Great Falls. WILD HORSE, Mont. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations announces the Port of Wild Horse will begin operating on its summer hour schedule of 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., daily, on May 15. Richard "Dick" Looby, long-time resident of the Hi-Line, passed away at 73 on April 18, following a several-year long health spiral from a series of strokes. Dick grew up on what he affectionately referred to as "the farm", southwest of Harlem, where he obtained his GED and signed up with the US Navy. Marion Wisch (Carrie) passed away on May 8th 2018 of natural causes. She was born on April 24th 1954 in Wolfsburg, Germany to Helmut and Irmgard Mester. She began her working career at Volkswagen, where her father had worked for many years. She then worked for the airline Lufthansa, and later pursued a writing career. Marion, (Carrie) had a vivid imagination, which was reflected in her stories. She met and later married Dennis Wisch in 1999. She was a great cook and loved to decorate her home. The Blaine County Fair Board was notified recently of a $10,000 grant award to buy and wire 50 LED lights for the new indoor event center to be erected at the county fairgrounds. “Libraries Rock!” is the theme of the upcoming Summer Reading Program. Children ages preschool through grade 6 are invited to participate by registering beginning May 29 at the library or on Facebook.
