Two Blaine Countians received "Senior Citizen of the Year" awards at the regional meeting of the North Central Agency on Aging's gathering on July 21 at the senior center in Choteau. Karin Roehm, Director of Area III, said, "The annual award program is an opportunity to honor volunteers who have made significant contributions at the various centers in our region." Fred Dolven, 77 years old, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2017 in Reno, Nevada. His death was the result of a ten-year battle with Lewy Bodies Dementia and Parkinsonism. Fred was born to Arnold and Mary Dolven on November 3, 1939 in Harlem, Montana. He attended University of Montana in Bozeman, where he graduated in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in architecture. Elaine Frances Ereaux, 63 Passed away on June 22, 2017 at Billings Clinic in Billings Montana. She was born on December 28th 1952 in Ft. Belknap MT to Frank and Katherine Ereaux. Her parents decided to move to the family to California, where they lived in Long Beach, Sacramento, and San Francisco Bay area. She then moved back to Montana in her 40s. Sweet Memorial Park in Chinook was a busy place last week as the local jump youth group helped put on a vacation bible school last Monday through Thursday. The Girl Scout house served as headquarters for the event which ran from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. daily. The school was an extremely popular event this past week, at its height 44 children attended the midday sessions headed up by 18 Junior High and High School and adult camp counselors. The Blaine County II Ambulance crew bid Don and Bonnie Harmon farewell this past Sunday at a retirement BBQ picnic at the Turner Park. The Harmon's have invested a lot of time and commitment into the Ambulance and its services over the years and the now the community will sorely miss their presence. A large group of elementary aged children gathered recently at the Turner American Lutheran Church for a fun, week long Vacation Bible School adventure. This year the theme was Fun Maker Factory and the decorations were of the same theme. Pre-K kids had their week of fun at the Turner School Old Gym and were bused back and forth to the church via school bus. It was there that they joined the other students in singing and games. The Chinook Lions swim team split their roster and sent some swimmers to Glasgow and some to Chester to compete this weekend. Regardless of where they swam the Lion swimmers made their way to the finals. The Lions had three swimmers earn High Point trophies.
