    Montana has been near the top of the list of states with the highest suicide rates in the Nation, but an increase of 38% from 1999-2016 has moved the state to the top of the list. According to the Center for Disease Control, Montana had a suicide rate of 25.9/100,000 in 2016, nearly double the National average of 13.5/100,000.   • Toxic algae prompts warning at Cow Creek Reservoir

    CHINOOK – Blaine County health officials reported Wednesday that toxic, blue-green algae has been found in Cow Creek Reservoir, southwest of Chinook. On Sunday, September 1, Blaine County was alerted that a woman’s 10-month old puppy had died after drinking water immediately below the outfall of Cow Creek Reservoir. On Wednesday, September 4, a qualitative water sample test was positive for the presence of microcystin, a known liver toxin, at or above the advisory level for recreation.     The Zurich Elementary School reunion planning team that repurposed the name Zurich Association of Parents (ZAP) held its second meeting on August 26. Despite the small turnout, the group was large on enthusiasm for a reunion event planned for Saturday June 13, 2020.     Helena, Mont., July 30, 2019 – The Montana Community Foundation, Inc. (MCF) announces the opening of a grant cycle to benefit communities and residents of Blaine County. Grants will be made from the Blaine County Community Foundation Fund, established at MCF by Warren Ross in 1997. Financial support for this grant program also comes from the Ross 87 Ranch Endowment Fund, established by Warren Ross as well.     Remember the library is now operating on a new schedule: Mondays 11-7, Tuesdays and Fridays 9-2, Wednesdays and Thursdays 12-6. The Court sentenced the Defendant to the Department of Corrections for a period of ten (10) years, all suspended.
