  • Rain, Rain, please can you stay another day!

    Sep 20, 2017

After a long stretch of record hot temperatures and dry conditions, locals got a break as the rains finally came. Like the few random showers through the summer, the most recent rains were spotty by amount but still greatly appreciated. Immediate forecasts are for cooler than normal overnight temperatures and low percentages for more rain. Steady rain was reported over the East Fork Fire and provided much help to those still on the scene in hopes of reaching 100 percent conta...

    Steve Edwards|Sep 20, 2017

When Meadowlark fourth grader Griffin Crowley and his family returned to their home in south Blaine County after being evacuated because of the East Fork Fire, Griffin made a sign for the front yard. One side read "Pray for rain" and the other read "Thank you firefighters." Asked why she thought her son made the sign, Jacy Crowley teared up a bit as she explained, "I think when we returned to the house and he saw the devastation from the fire, he was overwhelmed." Jacy added, "He did the sign...

  • Bear Paw Meanderings

    Robert Lucke|Sep 20, 2017

I was never much of a hunter. I guess I loved watching wildlife too much and marveling over its beauty. However, if there was a hunting camp to go to, I was usually there. I loved hunting camps almost as much as fishing camps. Of course our hunting camps were usually centered on Clear Creek, and most of the ones I went to were in the Bear Paw School cabin, an old one room log building built on a little rise just above where Henderson Creek dumps into Clear Creek. However, my uncle Al went elaborate for several years and had his hunting camp in...

Although this gathering appeared to be a bit emotional to those who remember the date, students were very moved by a moment of silence followed by singing of the National Anthem led by Mrs. Michelle Keller. Four high school boys raised the flag and...

They won the game handily, beating Savanna State 56 to 3 of all things but their main quarterback Reese Phillips had a serious ankle injury. Havre lost to Belgrade 43 to 6 and Harlem lost to Cut Bank 65 to 0. Bad day for the home teams, right? If that...

The tree was just around the corner from the front door of the store. Pointing to some low hanging branches Dan said, "The other day I heard a terrible noise from the park and came out to see what was...
