    Plenty of activity near the football field last week, and not just for homecoming. Ground was broken for the Chinook Skate Park and much dirt is being moved. "Sure was happy to see the trucks roll in Wednesday night," said Lions Club President, Jay Eslick. An idea that originated with a group of Lions three years ago, is finally coming to fruition.   • US 2 Construction Beginning Between Zurich and Harlem

    The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its contractor, Wickens Construction, are beginning a project to reconstruct a portion of US Highway 2 (US 2) between Zurich and Harlem. This project will widen a 7-mile stretch of US 2 between the intersections with Eight Mile Road, 4 miles east of Zurich, and Thirty Mile Road, just west of Harlem, to include 12-foot travel lanes and 8-foot shoulders.     On Sunday, September 8, the Chinook FFA Chapter hosted its annual FFA Recruitment Barbecue at the shooting range south of Chinook.     Cory Ray Belcher, 60, of Chinook, was born May 5th, 1964 in Havre, Montana passed away at his home in September of 2024. Cory was an incredibly talented motor-head.     Elaine Louise Allen passed away peacefully September 15, 2024 at her home in Havre, MT. Elaine, born June 26, 1962 in Havre, MT, was the youngest child of Eugene and Nancy Sudan. She attended Hogeland and Turner Schools, where she was better known as Haney, graduating in 1980 from Turner High.
