Kevin Elias auctions off a Tree during the Live Auction portion of the Festival of Trees. A total of $3,120 was raised from the event. Trees had been on display in the First Bank Lobby for the past couple of weeks, during which time people could bid on the trees in a silent auction. Friday afternoon they were relocated to a canopy adjacent to the bank where the live auction would conclude the Parade of Lights. See page B4 for more photo's....
An always popular event in Chinook is the Community Thanksgiving Dinner. As usual, it was held at the Senior Center and there was a great turn out. Serving started promptly at 12 p.m., but some early birds enjoyed visiting as they awaited the delicious meal. A steady stream of people flowed through the door right away. The Chinook Alliance church has had their carpenter tools out for more than a year now as they continue expanding and improving their ability to serve the congregation. This past spring the church completed renovation of the old L & L Pizza building the church had recently purchased. The 'Annex' as its now known holds four classrooms, a Pastors office and opened up space in the foyer of the church for people to visit after outside of the Sanctuary. The movie today will be “Heaven is for Real”, which runs for 99 minutes and is rated PG. There was a time long ago when the Dallas Cowboys were my team. I sort of started watching football with them and since I had a good friend who was always for San Francisco it made for sort of a wild and wooly rivalry to say the least. The Turner Tornado girls and boys basketball teams will head to Glasgow this weekend to take part in the Class C Showcase as the 2016-17 basketball season gets underway. Head coach Jen Baird will lead the girls for the second season. The girls will open play Friday afternoon against Frazer with tip-off set for 3 p.m. Saturday they will play Nashua/Opheim at 4:30. The Chinook Sugarbeeter volleyball team picked up a couple more post season awards as senior Kelsey Mathon and junior Sierra Swank received Honorable Mention All-State recognition. Mathon and Swank were part of a team that turned in a very successful season this past fall. The weekend of November 18th, our chapter traveled to Bozeman for the JDAE (John Deere Ag Expo). On top of individual events the chapter members had, they went to a leadership training each morning they were there. During which speakers came in to tell them of their business experiences and give them advice on how to be a good leader and how to be successful. The chapter officers competed in Parli Pro.
