    Last Friday dawned cold, but clear in downtown Chinook. A little snow on the ground and the low temperatures set the tone for the Annual Parade of Lights, Tree of Lights Live Auction and Christmas Stroll.     Cancer Awareness has recently been shown at the Turner Public School when one of their teachers was diagnosed with cancer. The business teacher, Mr. James Bowers, decided he'd take it upon himself and fellow friends and neighbors to help his co-worker out.     Permits are available for $5 to anyone who wishes to harvest a Christmas tree on public lands under stewardship of the Bureau of Land Management. Under the “Every Kid in a Park Initiative” fourth-graders who present a valid Fourth Grade Pass will receive a free permit. Permits are available during normal business hours at the BLM Field Offices in Glasgow, Havre, Lewistown and Malta.     Jeanne Dalton has been shepherding the plans and presentation of Chinook’s annual Community Thanksgiving dinner for the past five years. In prior years, Jeanne and Ron Dalton relied on family for help in the kitchen. This year was different, Ron passed away in the spring and only one local son-in-law was able to help.
