Columnist's note: I'd heard of cattle mutilations but when we moved to the Sweet Grass Hills (about this time a year ago) I began to learn about the specifics of these mysterious happenings. Bob Thompson and his family operate the 3U Cattle Ranch south of Whitlash. As we got to know the family our conversations turned to a cattle mutilation on their ranch in the summer of 2018. They had photos to document the carcass of a yearling left in one of their pastures. The photos were, well, weird and...

Before coming to Big Sandy, I worked with kids in a mental health facility. Most of the kids were pretty ordinary but had abusive or difficult upbringings. The result of their terrible life experiences was often a great deal of anger and dysfunction. It was a difficult job because we worked with kids that lived at the facility. Their parents weren’t there to care for them, so we had to fill in the best we could. The hardest part of the job was that we had to deal with clients at their worst. It became very easy to shift our mindset from one whe...

The snow is white, bright and ankle deep. I look outside and I can feel the cold wind that is blowing the snow around, but I also see a beautiful winter scene. Especially on really nice days, when the sun shines down on the snow, giving it a sparkly look. Those days I look outside and see a fairy tale land that is dreamlike and beautiful. Cancer Support will be meeting on Tuesday December 17th, also on the 17th; children from the Chinook School will be here to sing Christmas Carols at 11:15 a.m. Come and listen, stay for lunch if you like....
