The Blaine County Library, in Chinook, held its Annual Hassle-Free Christmas program recently. It was the 26th year for the event that offers simple to make holiday gift ideas and decorating tips, holiday music and a Christmas-time story. At the end of the event guests are invited to try a variety of treats prepared by the library staff and library trustees. About 80 people attended the program this year. The Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission approved the Bridger Special Chronic Wasting Disease Hunt at its regular monthly meeting Thursday. The hunt will begin on Dec. 15 and go through Feb. 15. Licenses will go on sale Dec. 11. The goal of the hunt is to determine prevalence and distribution of chronic wasting disease within the hunt area. Montana farmers and ranchers with base acres in the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) or Price Loss Coverage (PLC) safety net program may now enroll for the 2018 crop year. The enrollment period, which began on Nov. 1, 2017, will end on Aug. 1, 2018. Since shares and ownership of a farm can change year-to-year, producers must enroll by signing a contract each program year. Friends of the Harlem Public Library hosted a Wine and Cheese Christmas! last week. According to Library Director Colleen Brommer it was the fifth year for the winter fundraiser. Three long running annual holiday events were held last weekend around the county. Sweet Nursing Home held its annual bazaar on Saturday while Edwards Funeral Home and the Harlem Civic Association held there events on Sunday. Sweet Nursing Home bazaar and beef stew luncheon Activity Manager Jeanne Buffington, who oversees the annual bazaar at the Sweet Nursing Home, said of this year's event, "There were 18 vendors, about the normal number for the bazaar." It was a big weekend on the hardwood for area Class C and Class B basketball teams as the Harlem Wildcats, Chinook Sugarbeeters and Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds saw their first action of the 2017-18 campaign. The 2017-18 high school Basketball season is in full swing now with the Chinook Sugarbeeters, Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds and the Harlem Wildcats getting into the mix of things this past weekend. The Chinook Sugarbeeters hosted their first mixer of the season this past Friday and were joined on the mats by the Harlem Wildcats and Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds. The Mixer provides each wrestler with the opportunity to wrestle three matches against similar caliber opponents if possible. No teams scores are kept. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 6 game wardens are seeking any information regarding a mule deer buck that was shot and left about sixteen miles south of Chinook, sometime on or around Nov. 14. The head was removed from the deer, and all the meat was left to waste. The incident occurred on private property about 1.5 miles east of the Chinook Clear Creek Rd., near the junction with the Havre Clear Creek Road.
