Shipwheel Cattle Company, located on Clear Creek Road south of Chinook, held its eighth annual bull sale in mid-December. Three members of Chinook High's Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter were at the sale barn, decked out in their blue jackets and helping serve lunch prior to the start of the bull sale. • First Chrismon ornaments created sixty years ago

    Steve Edwards, BCJ News|Dec 21, 2016

Reporter's note: Each year the Presbyterian Church in Chinook decorates a Christmas tree with white and gold handmade ornaments. The ornaments are known as Chrismons. I'd seen these ornaments on trees in other parts of the country, mostly in churches, but didn't know the history and origins of the unique three-dimensional decorations. Readers familiar with Chrismons will recall they are always white and gold (with a couple of rare exceptions). Chrismon is a combination of 'Christ' and...

  • Christmas cooks make nice for Santa

    Leslie Gregory and Robert Lucke|Dec 21, 2016

Editors note: This story originally ran in the Big Sandy Mountaineer a week ago. Our faithful reporter Robby Lucke and Mountaineer cohort Leslie Gregory did a fantastic job and we wanted to share it with our readers. But that is exactly what Leslie can do is stick to the directions and come out with some great cookies. At the Big Sandy Christmas Stroll crafters had...

Rev. Sherry Edwards, Retired Pastor of Chinook|Dec 21, 2016

As I contemplate retirement from the ministry, I am reminded of all the friends I have had through jobs in school teaching, nursing, pastoring and just plain living and raising children. The blessings I have received have been so daily and so abundant that I could never make a list. But in most lives, I suspect, we call some of the people we meet acquaintances and/or friends: some we remember with fondness, some we may never want to see again, some we want to see again but do not because of...

  • BEAR PAW MEANDERINGS

    Robert Lucke|Dec 21, 2016

Once again it is that magical time of year called Christmas. To paraphrase Robert Frost, we stop often to watch the falling of downy flake along the streets and boulevards of our home towns or even better, we stop out on Beaver Creek to watch those woods fill up with snow. Christmas is for giving and those who have been giving all year long certainly know how to do it now. It is a time to share, reflect and wait for the Christ Child to be born and once again come into our homes and families. In the meantime we light candles, get Yule logs roari...
