This produces some pretty electric thunderstorms. July and August thunderstorms raise the fire danger levels. On Saturday, August 1, three local artists will be hosting an Art Social and Exhibition at 223 Indiana Street, the former location of the Impact Zone in Chinook. The work on display will be that of Adrianna Standiford-Reid, Jenna Fox, and Elizabeth Finley-all recent magna cum laude graduates of the University of Montana-Western (UMW) visual arts program. The Harlem Public Library is the recipient of the Children's Book Project grant award from The Pilcrow Foundation. Because of this grant the library has added 95 new picture books as well as juvenile fiction and nonfiction selections to the children's collection. Hotspots may be checked out for fourteen days with no renewals to registered users age eighteen or older in good standing for at least one month prior to check out. Montana Actor’s Theater is back, and the crew have been busy. Earlier this month, they held auditions, announced theater camp schedules, and hired interns. On June 9 and 10, Montana Actor’s Theater (MAT) hosted auditions for their upcoming theatrical production of The Wizard of Oz. It is extremely important to keep kids reading throughout the summer to prevent the summer slide and even though our weekly programs have been modified, we continue to encourage kids to read and participate in our programs. The library has partnered with the Chinook Public Schools and will be offering a program Monday and Wednesday during the summer lunch service. As we enter Phase Two Plans a few things will change at the library, but most of the Phase One restrictions will remain. We continue to ask patrons not to enter the library if you are sick. We strongly encourage everyone to wear a mask, but we will not be requiring them to enter. In these social distancing times, Shiloh Seymour, Principal at Harlem Elementary School, and Evelyn Bigby, Elementary Assistant Principal, took the wearing of masks and gloves to an entirely different level to celebrate their students' attendance. The theme for 2020 is “Imagine Your Story,” focusing on fairytales, fantasy, and all things make-believe. Because of Covid-19, we will not be having a weekly program held at the library.
