Forty-six people from along the Hi-Line just returned from a trip to Colorado Springs. Coordinated through several senior centers along the Hi-Line, there were travelers from Fort Peck to Chester along Highway 2 as well as from Polson and Great Falls. The seven-day, six night tour included four nights in Colorado Springs, with overnight stops in both directions in Sheridan, Wyoming. The trip was open to any adult. Max and Kirsti Cederberg were to Spokane on Friday to attend a memorial dedication at the Fairchild Air Force Base. On their way home on Saturday, they stopped in Missoula and had lunch with Rennay Watkins. Despite a couple of false starts about where he could build his Eagle Scout project, JJ Colby believes he can have everything done by the end of October. Lacy Schimmel, from Wisconsin, and Lauren LaMonica, a native of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, were introduced at a community gathering last week in Wallner Hall. The two will serve as Young Adult Volunteers (YAVs) for a year in Chinook working with existing faith-based and community organizations. A friend was in the office the other day saying how he liked my stories about fishing on Clear Creek. He went on to say that he had fished, as a boy on Beaver Creek and Sandy Creek and how it was about the same. Traditionally this time in May was the opening of fishing season on streams. It’s been a busy week here in our community. The Divisonal Track meet was held last Thursday in Great Falls. The weather was nice and the kids did well. Eddie Harmon, Cody Welsh, and Sarah Billmayer all qualified for State. It will be held this Friday and Saturday May 26 and 27th at Laurel. Good luck to the Turner Tornadoes as they compete there. Tom and Lucy Fairbank were to Colorado earlier this week to attend granddaughter, Megan Humphrey’s graduation. They beat it back to Turner so they could help celebrate a second graduation of granddaughter, Rennay Watkins. January was a busy month for a dozen volunteers from five churches. The volunteers met and made many Days for Girls kits for impoverished girls in 100 countries throughout the world. In many countries these girls do not have any feminine hygiene products to use forcing them to miss school 5 days out of every month that amounts to 2 months a year.
