SHAWN L. SNOW

Shawn L. Snow of Hays, MT, passed away on October 3, 2015 at the family home on the Snow ranch. He was 58 years old. Wake services will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 7 p.m. and funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 11 a.m., at the Mission Rec Center. Shawn was born February 13, 1957, to James Snow, III and Rita Bradley at Fort Belknap Agency and was a member of the Aaniiih and Nakoda tribes. Shawn was raised in Hays, MT all of his life and attended Hays Elementary School. Shawn graduated from Flandreau Indian School in 1975. Shawn later attended Eastern Montana College after graduating high school.
Shawn met Cindy Carrywater during this time, in 1981. They had two daughters, Dalee of Brown's Creek and Beth Snow of Hays, MT. After 19 years of companionship, they separated.
Shawn started working for Fort Belknap Tribes, where he worked in various departments such as planning, the tribal court system, TERO, and the Fort Belknap College where he taught a class on the Fort Belknap tribal constitution, and was also a speaker and presenter at the University of Montana Law School. Shawn's knowledge of law was insurmountable and impressive. Many people sought his expertise and advice regarding legal and judicial information. Shawn loved reading, practicing and interpreting the laws, the code of federal regulations, and the Tribal code and constitution.
Shawn loved visiting old friends, family and his mother, Rita Bradley. Shawn enjoyed living in Hays at the Snow Ranch.
Shawn is survived by his daughters, Dalee (Tuffy), and Beth; his mother, Rita Bradley; his sisters, Ivy of Fort Belknap Agency, Amy of Billings, MT, and Joey Snow of Fort Belknap Agency; his brothers, Scott and Curt Snow of Fort Belknap Agency, Lyle and Duey Snow of Hays, MT, Spencer 'Spooky' Snow of Newtown, ND, Lonnie Brown of Fort Belknap Agency, Matthew 'Sam' McKay of Fort Totten, ND, Shawn C. Snow of Hays, MT; his three grandchildren, Amara, Sophie, Tadaya; his stepgrandmother, Bertha Snow, and numerous cousins and relatives.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Crystal Snow, Elizabeth 'Witchy' Snow, Nona 'Pixie' Snow, David 'Dan' Bradley, and his father, James 'Snowman' Snow III, and numerous aunts and uncles.
