We've Got The County Covered

Red Ribbon Week: Zombie Walks set to raise awareness

My Program, Fort Belknap Tobacco Use Prevention Program, will collaborate with others, such as, Public Health Nursing, Chemical Dependency, Health Education, Safe On All Roads, and a student/youth coalition on this event. We have 4 areas which the Fort Belknap Indian Community serves; Fort Belknap Agency, Hays, Lodge Pole and Dodson.

For Red Ribbon Week, we decided to do a Zombie Walk to bring awareness to the dangers and mortality rates due to use of nicotine and chemicals, alcohol, methamphetamine and other drugs, etc.

We are currently getting the word out, seeking participants to play the part of zombies. We would like a lot of representation in each communities to bring the most awareness. Each community has a different day to have the walk.

We will be providing some paint and blood but would like participants to bring their own, if possible.

Kicking off Red Ribbon Week will be Dodson on Oct. 26. We collaborated with Dodson School to get this event rolling. At 1:45 p.m., the students will start getting ready. Once finished, we will start the walk around 2:45 p.m. in front of the school.

Hays will have it’s awareness walk the next day, Oct. 27. Participants will meet downtown at the intersection around 4 p.m. The walk will be begin at 4:30 p.m. at the bike path, where we will walk to the end.

Fort Belknap Agency’s walk will take place on Thursday, Oct. 28. Participants will meet at 4 p.m. at the airstrip to get ready. The walk will start at 4:30 p.m. and will end at Red Whip.

Ending Red Ribbon Week will be the Lodge Pole community’s walk on Oct. 30. We will meet at the Chief Nosey Center at 4:30 p.m. The walk will start at 5 p.m. and end right before their community Halloween Masquerade starts.
