'Beeters soar past Mustangs 64-18, host Culbertson/Bainville Saturday in playoff opener

The Chinook Sugarbeeters have completed the first half of their goal following a 64-18 win over the Great Falls Central Catholic Mustangs Saturday in Great Falls.

The team had a stated goal of defending their Northern C crown, which they did two weeks ago when they blitzed C-J-I. Now they have completed the season undefeated recording a perfect 8-0 record.

The Sugarbeeters were dominate in those wins racking up 428 points on the season (53.5 ppg) while allowing just 70 (8.75 ppg).

Saturday's contest with the Mustangs was no different. Junior Tate Niederegger scored on a seven yard run early in the first to begin the scoring.

Senior Kenny Pruttis scored moments later on a 31 yard reception from senior Ian McIntosh to put Chinook on top 14-0.

Following a Mustang score the 'Beeters added two more scores as senior Derek Bell found pay dirt with touchdown runs of five and ten yards to push the lead to 30-6 midway through the second quarter.

Junior Kade Friede would follow with two yard run and McIntosh added a one yard plunge before Pruttis closed out the first half with his second receiving score of the contest.

McIntosh added scoring runs of two and 52 yards in the third quarter to provide the 'Beeters final points in a 64-18 win.

McIntosh passed for 267 yards in the win and Niederegger rushed for 114 and caught three balls for 65 yards..

Pruttis racked up 114 yards receiving and recorded an interception in the win. Senior Jake Norby added four catches and 88 yards to the 'Beeter offense.

Seniors Jesse Dannels and Kevin Young each recorded a sack in the win.

Head coach Scott Friede was pleased with how the team finished the regular season, "We executed well offensively – dispersed the ball quite evenly amongst our backs and receivers. Our defense played well with the exception of a couple miscues. Our defensive line really played well against a team that has been having good success running the ball this season. So, with that being said it was a fun game to end the regular season with."

Heading into the first round of the playoffs Friede is set on the task at hand, "Going into the playoffs we need to focus on one game at a time."

The 'Beeters open with the Culbertson/Bainville Cowboys and they present some challenges, "We need to be ready for a physical Culbertson/Bainville team," Friede stated. "This team has pretty good size, an accurate passer and a talented receiver. They have good size up front. We need to focus on stopping the run. This game will be a good first round match up for us."

While the team is ready for the playoffs to get underway they also relish what they have accomplished this season.

"I love this time of year," stated senior lineman Jesse Dannels. "You just have to take it one game at a time and do things extra perfect."

Junior Tate Niederegger has been enjoying a great season and feels pretty good about his team, "I am so proud of our team this year. It's incredible that we have two undefeated teams (Chinook Volleyball)"

Junior Kade Friede has stepped into a bigger role this season and has played well on both sides of the ball, "It has been another great season. We have an outstanding senior class and its great to be a part of this with them. One game at a time from here on out."

Kick off Saturday is set for 1:00 p.m.. The game is expected to be broadcast live on KRYK FM 101.3.
