Nurse Practitioner Caren Pfieffer to join Sweet Medical Center

Caren Pfieffer will join the Sweet Medical Center in mid-December. She has a Masters of Science in Nursing and is American Academy of Nurse Practitioner certified. Pfeiffer will be moving to Montana from Waddell, Arizona, an unincorporated area northwest of Phoenix. Her husband has been in the Air Force since 1999 and is being transferred to Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls.

Pfieffer began her medical career in 2005 as a certified nursing assistant, then worked as a licensed practical nurse while completing a degree at Mesa Community College to become a registered nurse. She graduated from the community college in 2008 and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Nursing degree, from Arizona State University, in 2009. While completing her undergraduate and graduate degrees she was with Banner Health Corporation working in ER and Telemetry. Telemetry is a technology that allows a patient's heart rate and rhythm to be monitored remotely.

She completed a Masters of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Arizona in 2013 and earned certification as a Nurse Practitioner. As a Nurse practitioner Pfieffer worked for Glendale Family Health Center. Glendale provides medical care to an underserved community. She wrote, "With Glendale I saw patients as young as three days old to 99 years old. I managed chronic care diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. I have pediatric experience with sick and well visits. I also provided services in women's health."

As to how she was drawn to a career in a helping profession, Pfieffer wrote, "Growing up with Deaf parents had an impact on my professional career due to the willingness and devotion I had as a child to help my parents. I was their voice in this hearing world. I often assisted with interpreting for my mother when she was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 15 years old.

I was exposed to the medical world and was eager and curious to know what health care providers knew. I wanted to make a difference in the lives of those who have limited access to health care information, Deaf individuals being one of them." She is proficient in American Sign Language.

Pfieffer and her husband have two school aged boys and two dogs. The family enjoys hiking, riding quads and playing board games together. Her hobbies include running, hiking, photography and gardening.

Of Pfieffer's joining Sweet Medical Center, CEO Dana Pyette said, "I'm looking forward to Caren's arrival and having a complete medical provider staff. With her background and experience I believe Caren will be a great asset to our facility." Pfieffer will join two other medical providers currently on staff.

The "Journal" welcomes Caren Pfieffer to the Sweet Medical Center and the community.
