The Hoon Field legacy was celebrated again during Chinook's Parade of Lights as spectators had the opportunity to salute the Beeters 2015 State Championship football team. The "Hoon Squad" float won third place.
When the 2015 'Beeters football team nicknamed themselves the "Hoon Squad," they tapped into a long story that surrounds Hoon Field. Hoon Field, the home field for Chinook High School's football games, was named after a local doctor, Dr. A.S. Hoon, a much beloved physician who lived and worked in Chinook from 1912 to 1955. Hoon retired in 1995, he and his wife moved to Missoula. The football team used a play on words, harking back to the days when goon squads were groups of tough characters, often involved with union troubles, both pro and con.
