We've Got The County Covered
The 2015-16 version of the Turner Tornado varsity girls basketball team has a very similar look to the team that showed much improvement a year ago.
Turner won a game at the District 9C a year ago and this years squad is poised to make a little more noise.
Jen Baird will be at the helm of the girls program this winter and has her team off to a fast start with a pair of victories at the Glasgow preseason tournament this past weekend.
Friday the girls used a 20-4 fourth quarter to run away from the Nashua Porcupines 48-32.
Freshman Rylee Conlan led the charge scoring all of her team high 13 points in the second half.
Freshman Raegan Conlan chipped in 11 markers and junior Rennay Watkins scored 12 points from the post position.
Saturday the girls jumped out to a 29-17 halftime lead and again got a big fourth quarter effort to secure a 57-38 win over Frazier to improve 2-0 on the young season.
Raegan Conlan tossed in 18 points, nine of which came in the opening quarter. Junior Ella Billmayer added 15.
"I have a great group of girls that are very hard-working, driven and have a lot of potential. I'm excited to watch us develop throughout the season. We're all still getting to know each other and the preseason tournament in Glasgow last weekend was a great opener for us," Baird said later.
"We did a lot of good things during both games and they also gave us a look at what we need to work on," added Baird.
Getting off to a fast start is exactly what the first year head coach was hoping for, "The two wins felt great and the girls and I are taking advantage of the next two weeks to apply what we need to work on, and be ready for our conference opener in North Star on Dec. 18," concluded Baird.
The team will make its first home appearance of the new season the following night against the Fort Benton Longhorns and close out 2015 with a home contest against the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks on December 21. They will return to the court January 5, 2016 in Dodson.
