We've Got The County Covered
The outcome of the first two contests of the new campaign was exactly what head coach Laramie Schwenke and her team was looking for.
Friday, Harlem scored 39 first half points over the Kainai Warriors en-rout to a 56-32 season opening win.
Saturday they held the Heart Butte Warriors to a single point the first fifteen minutes of the contest before locking up a 45-17 win to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Friday against Kainai, senior Mari Ereaux drained a pair of first quarter three-point bombs and freshman Skylee Dirden forced several turnovers and turning them into seven first quarter points to establish control of the game.
Ereaux would finish with 11 markers while Dirden tallied 11 as well. Junior Anita Bentley secured the middle, scoring ten points in the win. Senior Brooke LeValdo added ten as well.
Saturday the offense wasn't firing on all cylanders but the defense certainly was. Harlem pressured the Warriors into turnover after turnover, limiting them to a mere three first half points.
The offense scored just three baskets from the field in the opening half but took 23 shots from the charity strip to lead 16-3 at the break.
The second half was more of the same as another 19 free throws were attempted. While the team got to the free throw line often the team converted on 20-42 attempts.
LeValdo again paced the offense with ten markers, Bentley added eight and Dirden seven in the win.
Thursday the girls will face one of their toughest tests of the year when they face the Malta M-ettes in Malta. Saturday the team will host Wolf Point.
