The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds girls and boys basketball teams were in Billings this past weekend taking part in the Annual All-American Indian Shootout at Metra Park.
Both squads came up short over the weekend however. The girls took on Lodge Grass Friday falling by a count of 77-44.
Saturday they faced a talented Lame Deer team and lost 77-24.
The boys had similar luck as they fell in the season opener to St. Labre 70-34.
Saturday the Thunderbirds were much more competitive but still suffered their second set back of the season 64-50 to Lame Deer.
The Thunderbirds will begin conference play this Friday when they host Chinook. Saturday both teams will make the trip east to face the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks before concluding 2015 with a contest in Gildford, Monday, December 21 against the North Star Knights.
The Thunderbirds will return to the court following the Holiday break with a home game in Lodge Pole versus the Big Sandy Pioneers.
The Thunderbirds have also fielded a wrestling team for the first time in many years. The team competed in Chinook and Glasgow this past weekend.
Thursday they will take part in the mixer in Fort Benton before heading to Great Falls to compete the Bison Junior Varsity Tournament Friday and Saturday.
