Wildcats beaten by Mustangs, fall to Wolves 44-43

The Harlem Wildcats fell to 1-3 on the season after suffering a pair of conference losses to the Malta Mustangs and Wolf Point Wolves over the weekend.

Friday the Wildcats lost 54-28 to the Mustangs in Malta. The team competed hard start to finish but the Mustangs were able to slowly pull away.

Junior Terry Sandcrane led Harlem with 10 points in the contest.

Saturday the boys welcomed the Wolf Point Wolves to town in their home opener.

The visitors led 17-12 after eight minutes of action and 26-20 at halftime but the Wildcats trimmed two points off their lead in the third to trail 37-33 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats caught the Wolves with four minute left in the contest and trailed 44-43 with 1:30 remaining.

Harlem got three shots at the basket but just couldn't get one to fall. With :02.4 left on the clock Harlem called timeout, set up a play and got a good look, however the shot still didn't fall and they lost a heart breaker 44-43.

"It's going to take a few games but the kids are learning the offense and the defense and things are starting to come together," said head coach Terry Kulbeck.

The Wildcats faced the Rocky Boy Morning Stars Tuesday afternoon and will be covered in next week's Journal.

Harlem will continue to work over the holiday break and return to the court January 2 when they will hit the road for a non conference clash in Cut Bank. January 8 the team will make its first home appearance of the new year when they host Chinook. The following night they welcome the Glasgow Scotties to town as they step back into District 2B play.
