We've Got The County Covered
The Chinook Sugarbeeter football team and it's players are still in the news more than a month after winning the school's second State Class 'C' football championship.
The All-Conference, All-State, Coach of the Year and the Bob Cleverly All-Star eight-man football selections have been made and everyone of them included a Sugarbeeter on the list.
Christmas Eve the 70th Annual East/West Shrine rosters were released and senior Kevin Young was honored with a selection. Seniors Jesse Dannels and Ian McIntosh were also selected as alternates to the roster.
Young, a 5'9" 210 pound defensive lineman, will suit up for the East team when the game is played this July 16 in Butte. The team will be coached by Laurel's Mike Ludwig.
During his tenure for the 'Beeters, Young made opposing offenses crumble with his relentless attack. He is the school record holder for sacks in a season, game and career, while also recording the most tackles in a single game.
Young had several goals when he first started playing varsity football, "When I started my sophomore season, my goals were set, but by the end of the season I had to raise them because I wanted more."
Those goals have nearly all been achieved following his senior season, "It's (Shrine selection) been a goal of mine from the beginning and now that it's a reality, it's a relief that all my hard work paid off."
Young had goals beyond the Shrine game though, "At the end of my senior season, I earned my second All-State selection, made two All-Star teams and am working on becoming a college athlete, so mission accomplished."
Young's goals don't end at the high school level, "All I set out to do in high school is done and now I'm ready to take that challenge to the next level and set some new goals for college."
Young has yet to decide on what college that will be but has narrowed his list down to three.
Young, Dannels and McIntosh were all invited to play in the Bob Cleverly as well.
