Chinook moves to 8-2 after taking down North Star 42-38 and Fort Benton 56-23

The Chinook Sugarbeeter reached 8-2 on the season following an impressive win over the North Star Knight Friday at home 42-38. Saturday the boys shrugged off a slow start to whip the Fort Benton Longhorns 56-23 to improve to 5-2 in District 9C play and 8-2 overall.

Freshman Isaac Bell took a pass from junior Kyle McMaster and knocked down a three point bomb to tie the contest with the North Star Knight 8-8.

Moments later, down four, Freshman Cord Schneider took a pass from Bell and finished at the rim. On the next possession Schneider corralled the offensive rebound for a score and the teams were again knotted up at 12-12.

North Star went on a 7-0 run to take a 19-12 lead before senior Ian McIntosh found Bell behind the arc for another three point missile to trim the advantage to 19-15.

Schneider would trim the lead to 21-17 with a bucket inside but North Star would own a 23-17 lead at the break.

Bell got the 'Beeter offense going in the third taking a nice pass from junior Robert Smith and scoring to make the score 23-19 in favor of the Knights.

McIntosh then made his presence felt with an offensive rebound and put back for a score. Next trip down McIntosh would score again for the 'Beeters and they were within two, 25-23.

At the 4:19 mark of the third the 'Beeters impressively beat the North Star press when McIntosh inbounded to Bell who the flipped it back to a passing by McIntosh who then found Schneider cutting hard to the basket for two points and a tie game 25-25.

The Knights scored from beyond the arc but Schneider responded with two more points inside to keep Chinook within one, 28-27.

The 'Beeters took their first lead of the contest with :10 left when Smith drove the lane and dished off to Schneider after drawing the defense to him. Schneider converted the deuce and

Chinook led 29-28 entering the fourth.

The Knights again took the lead 32-30 when McIntosh scored off a nice dribble drive to knot the game at 32-32.

McIntosh scored moments later off a pass from Bell and Chinook was back on top 34-32 at the midway point of the fourth.

Bell and Smith each connected from the charity strip but a North Star basket brought the teams even again at 36-36.

McIntosh connected on two attempts from the charity stripe for a 38-36. After another North Star basket tied the contest up it was Schneider who went 2-2 from the line for a 40-38 advantage Chinook wouldn't relinquish.

McIntosh would put the finishing touches on a 42-38 win by converting twice more from the line.

Schneider finished the contest with a game high 17 points. Schneider also grabbed a team high nine rebounds.

McIntosh finished with 12 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Bell added 11 points and eight rebounds for the 'Beeters.

Saturday in Fort Benton the teams played a ugly first quarter that ended with Chinook up 7-3.

McIntosh converted a pair of free throws for a 9-3 lead to start the second.

Schneider and Bell combined for 16 first half points helping Chinook stake a 22-6 halftime lead.

The 'Beeters pushed the lead to 33-14 entering the fourth quarter of action.

The game well in hand and Longhorns fouling out gave the 'Beeters an opportunity for some young kids to get some quality minutes.

Freshman Rylee Kellam and Freshman Brendan Edwards each scored seven points in the final stanza as Chinook earned a 56-23 win.

Schneider finished the game with 16 points while Bell added 12 and McIntosh eight.

Chinook will host Hays/Lodge Pole Thursday in an important 9C clash and head to Big Sandy Saturday.
