Tornadoes fall in contests with North Star, Fort Benton

The Turner Tornadoes played a pair of District 9C contest over the weekend falling Friday evening to the North Star Knights 78-36, and Saturday to the Fort Benton Longhorns 61-49.

The Knights led 14-4 after one and 35-18 at intermission. They extended their advantage to 63-31 entering the fourth quarter before securing the 78-36 win.

Turner was paced in the contest by the efforts of sophomore Eddie Harmon who drained a pair from beyond the arc on his way to a 14 point night.

Saturday afternoon in Fort Benton it was Turner that took an early 18-9 lead on the strength of two three pointers from senior Tyler Humphreys and a five points from Harmon and a triple from senior Bret VanValkenburg.

The Longhorns trimmed the Tornado advantage to 31-25 by halftime.

The third quarter doomed Turner as they were outscored 24-8 as the Longhorns seized control of the contest.

The teams traded baskets the final eight minutes but the Tornadoes couldn’t cut into the Fort Benton Lead falling 61-49.

Harmon sank three long from downtown and scored 15 in the contest while VanValkenburg added 13 points.

Turner will host the Dodson Coyotes Thursday and travel to Chester Saturday to face the Hawks.
