We've Got The County Covered
The candidate filing process for the upcoming primary and general elections opened January 14 and will close March 14. There are two county level offices to be filled this year, the District 2 County Commissioner’s position and the Clerk of the District Court. The primary will be held, along with contests for state and federal offices, on Tuesday, June 7. The general election will be held Tuesday, November 8.
In the commissioner’s race, incumbent Frank DePriest has filed his intention to seek reelection for another six year term. Incumbent Clerk of the District Court Kay O’Brien Johnson will retire at the end of the year and does not plan to seek reelection for the four year term to be filled. Rebecca Blankenship has filed as a candidate for the clerk’s position.
Blaine County Clerk and Recorder Sandra Boardman said any person wishing to file for either of the two county offices to be filled during this election cycle can get the necessary paperwork form the Clerk’s office in the courthouse during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm. There is a filing fee of $245.15 for the county commissioner’s position and a $235.15 fee to file for the Clerk of the District Court. The Declaration for Nomination and Oath of Candidacy forms for candidates can be downloaded online at sos.mt.gov. That site also shows where to mail or return completed candidacy forms along with the appropriate filing fee.
Absentee voting in upcoming
primary and general elections
The Clerk’s office recently sent out letters to all voters who were listed on the absentee list to receive an absentee ballot. Being listed allows any registered voter to vote their ballot in the convenience of their home. If your received a letter, which confirms the address where your absentee ballot will be sent, it should be returned to the Clerk’s office as soon as possible. The Absentee List Address Confirmation form lists options to return the completed form.
Voters can request an absentee ballot until noon the day before each election. Deadlines to get an absentee ballot would be by noon on June 6 for the primary and by noon November 7 for the general election.
If you did not receive a confirmation letter and want to vote by absentee ballot, call or visit the Clerk’s office and request a registration form. For more information about filing as a candidate or have other voting questions, call the Clerk’s office at 357-3240.
