We've Got The County Covered
The “Blaine County Journal” has a new reporter who will be gathering news for the east side of the county. Levi Gonzalez recently joined the newspaper staff as a news reporter and will be doing stories from the Harlem, Fort Belknap and Zurich area.
Gonzalez is a native of the Coravallis, Oregon area. He and his wife, Carsey, moved to Blaine County in the spring of 2012. They recently moved to a farm in the area and are developing their farming operation. Carsey is the daughter of Ernie and Leanna Johnson, of the Pleasant Valley Road area, east of Chinook.
Gonzalez graduated high school in Oregon and did his two-year mission, with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Chile. He speaks Spanish fluently and that was a big plus on his mission. Gonzalez’s family is in the construction business and he grew up working in the family business. He and Carsey met while he was working at Utah Valley University on the university staff as a media technician, helping install new equipment and aiding teachers with media setup and use.
Still living in Utah after their marriage in the fall of 2011, the couple decided to explore the possibilities of moving back to Montana, Carsey’s home. Gonzalez said, “I’d met Carsey’s family but had never been to the family farm. Carsey and I felt we needed a change from where we were living.” When Gonzalez called his father-in-law about the prospects of helping on the farm he said, “Ernie was a little shocked at first but soon warmed to the idea, then he got enthusiastic about our coming back and helped us start our own farm operation.”
As to his start as a new reporter, Gonzalez said, “Well, like starting any new job, I’m a bit nervous but really excited. Blaine County is a great place to live. Being a reporter will give me an opportunity to meet a lot of new people and learn more about the area. I’m hoping many new friendships will develop from my work as a reporter.” An avid shooter, he’s already made connections to the area through his membership and participation in the Chinook Rod and Gun Club. He’s active in his church and serves as a scoutmaster for the troop chartered by his church.
You can share story ideas with Gonzalez by calling 357-4191. He said, “Sometimes we’re out and about, leave a message and I’ll return the call.” The “Journal” welcomes Levi Gonzalez, as a new reporter, and wishes him success as he reports the news from around eastern Blaine County.
