Bertha Snow

Bertha E. Snow, 97, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2016, of natural causes at the Northern Montana Care Center. Wake services will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at the Mission Rec Center in Hays. Rosary services will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016, at the Mission Rec Center, and her funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at the St. Paul Mission. Bertha was born on August 15, 1918, in Hays to Fred and Mary (John) Gone. She was raised in Hays, and attended the Ursuline Academy in Great Falls, but returned home to help care for her family before graduation. Bertha met and married Paul Myrick, and the couple had three children, William Paul, Judith Ann, and Deanna P. The couple later divorced, and sometime later, Bertha married James B. Snow II. Together, the couple raised their blended family. Bertha worked for many years as a nurse's aide and for central supply at Indian Health Services in Fort Belknap. She studied hard, and received her GED in 1970. She reluctantly retired in 1979 due to health conditions. Bertha adopted two granddaughters and raised them, together with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other young people who needed her.

Bertha was a caregiver at heart, and a fabulous cook. She loved to share her bounty, whether it came from the chickens, cow, or garden, and she loved caring for the "strays" that ended up in her yard.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Snow II; her parents, Fred Gone, Sr., and Mary (John) Talks Different; all of her siblings; her children, William P. Myrick, Judith Ann Myrick, Deanna P. Myrick, James F. Snow II, Winona Gives, Elinor Sullivan, Kermit Snow Sr., Gilbert Snow, and Nona (Snow) Pitkanen; and several grandchildren.

Bertha is survived by her children Elwell Snow, Melvina Snow, and Alicia (Myrick) Werk; her numerous beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephews; and her many, many extended family and friends.
