The Chinook Sugarbeeter boys basketball team faced a tough task this past weekend as they took on the top two teams in the District 9C.
Friday the team faced the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks and were defeated 59-30. Saturday the boys traveled to Box Elder to take on a Bears team that was ready to play. Chinook fell in that contest 63-17.
Chinook gave the Hawks a test early. Freshman Isaac Bell score on a nice take to the basket and freshman Cord Schneider scored twice to keep the game even at 6-6.
The Hawks pushed the lead to 13-6 but Schneider answered with a bucket to end the quarter and bring the 'Beeters within 13-8.
The team trailed 24-13 at the break. The Hawks returned to the court a team on fire as they exploded offensively scoring the first 12 points to put the game out of reach securing a 59-30 win.
Schneider finished with eight points to lead the offense and also recorded two blocks. Freshman Brenden Edwards knocked down a pair of threes for six points and Bell finished with five.
Saturday it was all Box Elder as they led 47-5 at halftime before securing a 62-17 win. Bell led the 'Beeters with eight points.
With just two weeks remaining in the regular season Chinook will look to improve their position in the District 9C standings. Currently the 'Beeters sit in fourth place with a 6-5 record in conference and a 9-5 overall mark.
The 'Beeters will close out the regular season with a contest this Thursday against the Harlem Wildcats at home. Saturday the team will go on the road to face the Turner Tornadoes.
The boys will finish with a trip February 12th to Gildford to face the North Star Knight. February 13th the team will conclude the regular season with a home contest against the Fort Benton Longhorns.
