Hays/Lodge Pole junior Kiara Shambo scores in the first quarter against Big Sandy.
The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds picked up their first District 9C win of the season earning a 49-38 win over the Big Sandy Pioneers Friday. Saturday the girls fell to the North Star Knights 56-32.
The Pioneers got the best of the Thunderbirds back in early January but a solid team effort turned the tables the second time the teams met.
Junior Kiara Shambo scored seven first quarter points to help the Thunderbirds take a early 13-7 lead.
Freshman Rayleigh Kirkaldie followed with a trio of long balls and a game high 19 points to help the girls secure their first victory of the season 49-38. Shambo finished the contest with eight points as did senior Jessica Parker.
