The Chinook Sugarbeeters turned in an outstanding overall team effort at the Northern B/C Divisional Wrestling Tournament this past weekend in Chinook.
The 'Beeters amassed 143 points finishing just behind Fairfield/Simms (145) and Choteau (152) for the top spot in the division.
The Harlem Wildcats performed solid on the mat as well finishing seventh with 71 points.
Individually the 'Beeters crowned three champions on the day. Junior Tate Niederegger won the 138 pound division, claiming his third straight Divisional championship.
Senior Jake Norby will take a number one seed into the state tournament next week following his win at 152 pounds against his Northern B/C foes.
Senior Kenny Pruttis also captured gold for the 'Beeters winning the 170 pound division.
In addition Chinook also picked up second place finishes from senior Jesse Dannels at 182 pounds and senior Kevin Young at 205 pounds.
Senior Derek Bell earned a trip to Billings next week by picking up a third place finish at 160 pounds.
Senior Alexander Rimkus just missed out on a ticket to state but still wrestled well finishing fifth at 132 pounds.
The Wildcats got solid efforts from all its wrestlers but it will be Junior Reece Hutton, Senior T'Jay Allen, senior Colten Stiffarm and freshman Kolton Bishop representing the Wildcats in Billings.
Bishop finished fourth 126 points scoring nice points for the Wildcats his freshman year.
Allen punched his ticket to state by finishing third at 138 pounds and will look to repeat the effort next week.
Hutton has had a solid season on the mat and earned a Northern B/C third place finish at 205 pounds and a trip to state.
Stiffarm captured third at 285 pounds and will look to finish his senior season on the podium next week.
Junior Marcus Castillo wrestled well for Harlem but missed a trip to state following a fifth place finish at 145 pounds.
Niederegger went 3-0 on his way to the championship defeating Ethan Cliver of Conrad by pinfall in just :38. He then pinned Wacey RunningCrane of Valier in :30, and Dawson Peterman of Fairfield-Simms in the championship match in 3:58.
Norby also went 3-0 at the Northern B/C. He began with a pin of Valier's Trevor VandenCos in 1:07. Norby followed with a pin of Bryan Ballard of Choteau in just :26. Norby won a 8-2 decision in the final over JR Seewald of Cut Bank.
Pruttis compiled a 4-0 record that began with pin of Harlem's Moses Smith in :48. He then pinned Weston Allderdise of Big Sandy in 1:33, Jordan Pierce of Malta in 1:36 and claimed the championship with a 14-2 Major Decision over Kyle Sanders of Fairfield-Simms.
The All-Class State Wrestling tournament gets under way Thursday at the Metra in Billings with weigh-ins. Friday are the opening and semi-final rounds. Saturday are the consolation final and championship matches.
