Thunderbirds conclude girls basketball season at 9C tournament

The Hays/Lodge/Pole Thunderbirds season came to an end at the District 9C tournament following a pair of losses.

In the opener they fell to the Chinook Sugarbeeters 83-14. Junior Maxine Plainfeather tallied five points for the Thunderbirds in the contest.

Friday morning the team faced the Turner Tornadoes in loser out action.

Hays/Lodge Pole was much more competitive but the Tornadoes experience prevailed as the Thunderbirds season ended with a 67-33 loss.

Junior Kiara Shambo scored 12 points in the contest and freshman Rayleigh Kirkaldie added 11 of her own in the contest.

The Thunderbirds finish the season with a 1-19 record, their lone win coming the last weekend of the regular season versus the Big Sandy Pioneers.

The team improved from the beginning of the season to its conclusion and were much more competitive in the second meeting against conference opponents than the first.

With a solid young group of athletes the Thunderbirds are sure to continue that growth and have it reflect on the court when the 2016-17 basketball season begins.
