Wildcats thump Wolf Point to open District 2B, edge Glasgow in consolation final to advance to Northern B

The Harlem Wildcats are headed to the Northern B Divisional in Malta this weekend following a strong performance at the District 2B tournament.

Harlem began tournament play against the fifth seeded Wolf Point Wolves Thursday night earning a 73-54 victory and securing their spot in this weeks divisional.

The win set up a semifinal contest with the Malta Mustangs. The Wildcats fell in that contest 85-46.

The Wildcats then challenged the Glasgow Scotties in the consolation final winning the districts number three seed at the Northern B with a 56-50 win.

Against the Wolves in the opener Harlem jumped out to a 14-8 lead on the strength of four points each from seniors Michael Butterfly and Corbin Brockie.

The Wildcats stretched the lead by two in the second stanza as senior Marcus Henry connected twice from long range helping Harlem take a 31-23 halftime lead.

The Wolves would get those two points back in the third quarter trimming Harlem's lead to 46-40 with eight minutes left in the contest.

With the season on the line the offense erupted for 27 points in the final quarter. Henry scored eight in the period and junior Hollin Fox added six to fuel the offense and give the Wildcats a 73-54 win.

Henry finished with a game high 21 points including three triples. Butterfly added 13, Brockie 11 and Fox 10 in the win. Senior Keahna Little chipped in eight.

In the semifinal the Wildcats fell to the Malta Mustangs 85-46. Henry had a solid game as he was the only Wildcat in double figures scoring 24 points in the contest.

The Wildcats topped Glasgow 37-36 in their first meeting and the Scotties bested Harlem 50-41 February 5 setting up the rubber match at the District 2B tournament Saturday afternoon.

Glasgow led 13-9 early but as has been the case throughout the season the Wildcats can score points in a hurry and put together a solid eight minutes of action to take 27-21 lead at the break.

It was Harlem with a 13-9 advantage in the third quarter giving them a 40-30 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Both offenses found a rhythm in the fourth. The Scotties managed to trip four points from the Wildcat lead but Harlem secured a 56-50 win and the number three seed.

Henry had a huge game for the Wildcats scoring 35 points including four from beyond the arc. Henry also led the team grabbing seven rebounds dishing out four assists and collecting three steals in the win.

Butterfly added eight points and grabbed seven boards as well while also recording three thefts.

Harlem will begin North B Divisional play Thursday night in Malta as they will face the Fairfield Eagles, the District 2B number two seed at 8:00 p.m.
