One Sight provides more than 1600 pairs of free glasses during Fort Belknap visit

There was a a flurry of activity taking place inside the Red Whip from Monday, March 14 through Friday, March 18 as a group of 47 volunteers provided free glasses to 1600 children and community members in Fort Belknap. The glasses are produced on-sight from the lens being cut into the prescription to the coating machine that helps with protection from UV Rays and scratches to turning the lens in poly carbonated, which is tough as bullet proof glass to the frame and lens cutting and polishing ends in a finished product: eye glasses - 1600 pairs will be the end result of the week long visit to Fort Belknap.

The children's were made on-the-spot, but the adults glasses will be made in the next two weeks and mailed back. Doctors from the seven nations provided eye exams for prescription including measuring the patients eyes and fitting them for frames to dilating the eyes, checking the pressure, etc. The One Sight Group was received with welcome from the community, tribal council and schools who hosted a special entertainment filled dinner for them at the high school on Thursday night.

Council Member Dominic Messerly, his son Terrance along with White Clay Immersion School dancers hosted a special Aaniiih song, dance and story time for the visitors. This is their second visit to Fort Belknap and a partnership with Walking Shield as well.
