'Beeter boys start fast win in Shelby, Fort Benton, girls second in Shelby

The Chinook Sugarbeeter golf team got their season off to a fast start this past weekend as the boys team won championships in Shelby and Fort Benton over the weekend and the girls recorded a team score that was good for second in Shelby.

The boys posted a three person score of 256 to easily outdistance runner up Fort Benton (282) in Shelby.

Saturday in Fort Benton the team posted a 267 to win by 12 strokes over Class B Choteau in the event held at the Signal Point golf course and hosted by the Belt Huskies and Centerville Miners.

Senior Ian McIntosh turned in a pair of outstanding performances over the weekend. In Shelby he posted a personal best 79 to win the tournament by one stroke over Derek Durocher of Choteau.

In Fort Benton McIntosh finished second with a round of 87. McIntosh also qualified for the state meet which requires a player to record a marked score of 100 or better.

Also performing very well and qualifying for state were senior Derek Bell and junior Kade Friede.

Bell, an All-state performer for the Sugarbeeters a season ago posted a round of 87 in Shelby to finish in a tie for seventh place. Saturday the senior shot a 89 at the difficult Signal Point course to finish tied for fourth.

Friede has been solid early on finishing tenth in Shelby following a round of 90. In Fort Benton Saturday Friede fired a 91 and earned a sixth place finish.
