Track and Field athletes from Chinook, Hays/Lodge Pole, Harlem and Turner met in Glasgow for the season opening Scottie Invitational as the 2016 Track and Field season gets underway.
Several local athletes turned in solid individual efforts on the day with several individual winners and multiple placers.
As a team the Chinook girls finished fifth with 49.5 points, Turner 10th with 21 points and Harlem 17th with 2 points.
On the boys side it was Harlem finishing 8th with 26 points, Hays/Lodge Pole 10th with 20 points and Turner 11th with 18 points.
Chinook senior Kailey Kleinjan captured the girls 100 meter dash with a sprint of :13.50 getting the season off to a strong start.
Kleinjan was a state qualifier in both the 100 and 200 meter sprints a season ago.
Also earning a top finish for the Sugarbeeters was sophomore Abby Ellison. Ellison was very strong in the jumps a season ago and started 2016 right where she left off.
Ellison covered 32'0.25" on her final attempt in the triple jump to win the event by nearly a full foot.
Ellison also turned in a solid effort in the long jump covering 14'1" to finish fourth in the event.
Chinook freshman Megan Molyneaux enjoyed success in her first meet of her high school career.
Molyneaux earned a second place finish in the 100 meter dash with a split of :13.63.
Molyneaux later added a third place finish in the long jump with a leap of 14'2". She concluded her day with a sixth place finish in the triple jump.
The 'Beeters short relay, consisting of Kleinjan, Ellison, Molyneaux and junior Rochelle Chaffin finished second with a time of :53.45.
Chaffin added fifth place finish in the long jump (14'0") and freshman Kourtney Hanson a sixth place finish in the high jump (4'2") for Chinook.
Turners Jaye Anderson earned a pair of third place finishes and a sixth place on the day in a fine start to her season.
Anderson finished third in the 200 meter dash (:30.19) and the triple jump (30'4") and sixth in the 400 meter dash (1:08.44).
Also earning points for the Tornadoes was Raegan Conlan a 5th in the triple jump (28'6.5") and Rennay Watkins, third in the high jump (4'6").
Harlem senior Emma Humphreys has qualified for the state B meet in the shot put and started her season in Glasgow with a fifth place finish in the event. Her toss of 30'4" was her best effort of the day.
Hays/Lodge Poles Isaiah RunsAbove got the season off to a great start. RunsAbove finished first in the 3,200 meter run with an eight lap time of 10:40.64.
RunsAbove added a second place finish in the 1600 meter run (5:13.06) to scored well for the Thunderbirds.
Thunderbird Gilbert Snow recorded a time of 5:24.76 to finish fifth in the 1600 meter run.
Turners sophomore Eddie Harmon turned in a great effort on the track for the Tornadoes scoring all 18 team points.
Harmon won the 800 meter run, covering the two laps in 2:10.3 to win the race by nearly two seconds.
Harmon added a second place finish in the 400 meter dash with a split of :55.32.
Harlem's Damon Adams scored a pair of top three finishes for the Wildcats. The junior was second in the 200 meter dash with a split of :24.46.
Adams also was third in the 100 meter dash following a sprint of :11.91.
Senior Keahna Little turned in a solid effort for the Wildcats in 3,200 meter run, finishing third with a time of 11:01.3.
While it was a nice start for several athletes, today (Wednesday, Cal Wearley in Havre) and Saturday (Havre) will present the first opportunity for several additional athletes to perform for the first time having missed the season opener due to other school commitments.
The season is young and although short their will be plenty of opportunities for individuals and teams to make big improvements on their way to a great finish the end of May.
