Laurence, enlists in U.S. Navy

Isaiah Laurence, 19, a 2014 Harlem High School Graduate has left to complete U.S. Navy boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois (North Chicago). The boot camp will last seven weeks and then Laurence will go onto to a nine week training in San Antonio, Texas.

Laurence is the son of the late Agnes “Ippy” Laurence and grandson of the late Louie and Ruth LaMere.

“I know that I want to get out of Fort Belknap and see the world,” Laurence said. “I want to go and make a life for myself.”

Laurence lettered in basketball, cross country and golf for all four years. He attended carpentry classes at the Aaniiiih Nakoda College this past year before meeting Navy Recruiter Petty Officer Johnny Liston of the Great Falls Recruiting Office. He scored high on the ASVAB Testing in Butte earlier this year and hopes for a career in Military Police, Border Patrol or Security.

The family hosted a bon voyage dinner and early birthday party on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the Red Whip Rec. Center in Fort Belknap. They express gratitude for friends and family support and gifts of potluck dishes for the party.
