Travis Hamilton selected for 2016 Jerry Pyette Montana Eagles' Scholarship

Travis Hamilton, a senior at Chinook High School, was recently awarded the Jerry Pyette Montana Eagles' Scholarship for District 2. The district includes Eagles Clubs in Chinook, Great Falls, Havre and Lewiston. Hamilton received one of four scholarships awarded throughout Montana. Travis is the son of Darin and Elaine Hamilton. Jerry Pyette presented the scholarship in a ceremony at the Chinook Eagles' Club.

At CHS, Travis is active in choir and was preparing for the district music festival at the time of the award. He's a member of the National Honor Society and participated, at various times, in track, basketball and football and volunteered at the senior center. He plans to attend the University of Montana and major in business finance, with a goal to someday own a business. Commenting on how much he enjoys singing, he said he plans to be a member of the U of M choir.

When notified of the scholarship award, Hamilton said, "I was very pleased by the news. There is a good bit of competition among applicants through the local clubs. I'm very happy to have been selected." The scholarship is for $500.

The statewide scholarship was founded by Pyette when he was State Eagles' President in 2006. The Eagles' scholarship winners are determined for each of the four districts by a statewide committee. Local clubs receive scholarship applications and forward them to the state committee for review and awarding of each district's winner. During the award ceremony Pyette said "we had three very talented applicants from Chinook. We thank all the applicants and wish them the very best in their endeavors." The state Eagles made the four statewide scholarships a part of their State Charity program in 2007.
