'Beeter Netters step up and take down Havre; play well in Fort Benton

The Chinook Sugarbeeter tennis team had another successful outing as they competed in Havre last Tuesday against the Blue Ponies. Chinook went 27-1 on the day.

"Havre has a couple of hard hitting singles players in Paige Nelson and Meggan Smith. Both Brooke and Meggan got to play each of them and were very successful," said 'Beeters head coach Tom MacLean.

McLean also said that Havre has several good doubles teams and he said it was nice test for his doubles players and they responded excellently.

Havre's youth also got some of the younger Chinook players a lot of action.

"Havre has a huge group of younger players," MacLean added. "So our new players saw a lot of action matching up with them."

The Sugarbeeters than traveled to Fort Benton on Friday and Saturday and played duals against Whitehall, Fort Benton and Fairfield. Chinook again performed very well.

The 'Beeters finished Friday losing just two doubles matches and two singles matches.

"Our #1,2, and 3 singles of Brooke Nicholson, Megan Pruttis, and Nicole McCracken, and our doubles team of Lauren Harshman and Cortney Gunderson all competed really well, finishing the day undefeated." MacLean said, "I was especially impressed with Megan and Nicole."

"Brooke had to leave early, so they had to each step up a level against Fairfield, which is one of the strongest teams we've faced all year" MacLean said about the play of Pruttis and McCracken

On Saturday the Sugarbeeters returned to Fort Benton and played a flighted round robin with teams from Fort Benton, Whitehall, Fairfield, Harlem, and Poplar. Chinook turned in another stellar performance as they lost just one match.

MacLean said he was especially happy with his teams doubles play on Saturday as they played in the #1 doubles pool.

"Fort Benton and Fairfield's #1 doubles are both solid and scrappy," MacLean explained. "I was happy that both our teams played well against them and handled them."

Chinook will head to Helena this weekend and then play both Harlem and Big Sandy next Tuesday at the tennis courts in Chinook.
