Chinook girls second at Cut Bank Invitational, Johnson sweeps boys distance races

The Chinook Sugarbeeter track and field teams had another good showing last Thursday as the girls scored 80 points on the day to finish second in the team standings.

The sprints have been very good for the 'Beeter girls this season and Thursday in Cut Bank was no different.

Freshman Megan Molyneaux edged out senior Kailey Kleinjan by the slimmest of margins.

Molyneaux finished second in the race clocking in at :13.37. Kleinjan was third just one-one hundredth of a second behind at :13.38.

In the 200 meter dash it was Kleinjan again running hard as the senior finished third with a time of :27.66. Junior Rochelle Chaffin continued to run well for the 'Beeters finishing fourth with a split of :28.40.

In the 400 meter dash it was freshman Lincy Johnson scoring points for the girls team with a sixth place finish, completing the lap in 1:13.16.

Freshman Kourtney Hanson has been about as consistent a scorer as you can get in the 1600 meter race. Hanson as been near the front of the pack all season and finished with a 6:06.06 to place second in the event.

Junior Taylor Neibauer placed in both hurdle events for the 'Beeters finishing sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of :18.93. Neibauer followed that up with a third place finish in the 300 meter hurdles clocking in at :55.31.

The short relay team of Molyneaux, Chaffin, Kleinjan and sophomore Abby Ellison has been improving rapidly and secured the top spot in Cut Bank, winning the event with a time of :53.06.

The 'Beeters ran a long relay for the first time this season and finished third as Neibauer, Kleinjan, Hanson and Chaffin completed the four laps in 4:41.46.

Hanson added points to the 'Beeter total with a solid effort in the high jump clearing 4'4" in the high jump.

Ellison's specialty is in the jumps and the sophomore performed very well.

Ellison finished third in the long jump with a mark of 14'1.5". Chaffin added a fifth place finish to her solid meet with a leap of 13'8.75".

In the triple jump Ellison's hop skip and jump covered 31'0", good for second place in the event.

Junior Brooke Elliot cracked the scoring column for the first time earning a third place finish in the discus with a nice effort of 86'1".

Senior Kyler Johnson has specialized in the distance races all four years at Chinook.

Thursday his efforts resulted in a pair of wins as he swept the distance races for the 'Beeters.

Johnson completed the 1600 meter run in a time of4:55.12. Johnson's eight lap time of 11:30.76 topped the 3200 meter field.

The Sugarbeeters will be back in action this weekend when they are scheduled to compete in Great Falls.
