The annual commencement exercises took place Saturday, May 21, 2016 in the Turner School Gymnasium. Three Junior High graduates and three Seniors took to the stage for their graduation exercises.
Mrs. Kathy Zellmer played the processional and Tyler Humphreys welcomed the crowd. Tyler Anderson gave the introduction of the guest speaker, Mrs. Diana Maloney. The Seniors then had a parent presentation where each graduate presented long stem flowers to parents, family and selected guests. Ms. Rita Chvilicek, Superintendent, introduced both the Valedictorian, Tyler Humphreys, and Salutatorian, Bret Van VanValkenburg. A slide show was shown to the guests of photos taken over the past twelve years complimented by music selected by the graduates.
Mr. Johannas Brown, Chairman of the School Board, presented the Big Flat Grain Bin Scholarship to Tyler Lynn Anderson in the amount of $500.00. Then, Mr. James Hodgson, school counselor, presented the following scholarships to the graduates:
Tyler Lynn Anderson: Premium Scholarship from MSU-Bozeman in the amount of $1000.00
Tyler John Humphreys: Montana Tech Performance Based Scholarship of $1000.00, Montana Tech Freshman Challenge Grant for $2000.00, Governor’s Best and Brightest Scholarship in the amount of $2000.00 awarded each year for 4 years, as long as funding is available.
Bret Michael Van Valkenburg: We Love MSU - Northern for $1000.00, MT State University Northern- Gold Level Merit Scholarship $1000.00 per year, renewable for 4 years, Big Flat Electric Coorperative $250.00, and Basin Electric Scholarship for $1000.00, and A&M Aviation Scholarship for $500.00.
Ms. Rita Chvilicek introduced the Junior High Graduates and Mr. Johannas Brown presented them their 8th grade diplomas. They were: Sarah Jean Billmayer, John Larry “Jack” Harmon, and Jevyn Jaym Schuhmacher.
Introductions of the 2016 Senior Graduates then took place by Ms. Rita Chvilicek and diplomas were presented by Chairman, Johannas Brown. They were: Tyler Lynn Anderson, Tyler John Humphreys, and Bret Michael Van Valkenburg.
The farewell address was done by Bret Van Valkenburg and the recessional was presented by the Class of 2016 and the Class of 2020.
