Blaine County Democratic party reorganizing as presidential delegate process begins

The Blaine County Democratic Party recently held a meeting to reorganize. At that meeting Reuben Kuntz was selected to serve as the temporary chairman of the county party. After the state Democratic convention, to be held in mid-June, the Blaine County party will elect new officers for county party positions and state party posts from the county.

According to Greg Jergeson, long time party activist and former state office holder, Blaine County Democrats will hold their county convention the evening of June 9 at the home of Reuben Kuntz in Harlem. At that county convention two delegates will be selected to represent the county at the state Democratic Party convention on June 11 in Helena. At the state party convention delegates to the national Democratic presidential convention will be chosen to represent the interests of Montana’s Democrats. Delegates to the national conventions can play pivotal roles in selecting a presidential candidate for their respective parties.

Jergeson said, “Later in June our county organization will host a meeting to elect permanent officers for various party positions. We are hopeful the meeting in late June will attract some ‘new blood’ and help our county party move forward.” He added that a replacement for the county Superintendent of Schools might also be approved at the meeting in late June. The county party has a role in selecting that replacement since Terry Brockie, who resigned the office, was a Democrat.

Watch for announcements about the June meeting as to dates, place and time. “In the meantime,” Jergeson said, “we welcome all to attend the county convention. We want to select delegates that will represent our county’s interest with an eye to selecting a Democratic presidential candidate if there is no clear winner in the primaries.”
