We've Got The County Covered

Blaine County Library

Beginning today, June 1st the hours we are open are changing. We will be open Monday and Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Fridays from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. We will no longer close during the lunch and dinner hour. This will give you 2 hours more per week to get to the library!

The theme for Summer Reading this year is On Your Mark, Get Set…Read! Kids can start signing up after school on May 27th. For every 2 hours read, kids will be able to enter their name into our Summer Reading prize drawings. We have four prizes again this year. Pre-readers are encouraged to participate by having someone read to them. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of the coloring contest. The top reader in each grade will get a backpack and the top reader overall will earn an after-hours pizza party. Accelerated Reader tests will be available all summer. There will be something going on Monday through Thursday and all programs will begin at 2:00 p.m. We are changing our start time this year from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m., to better fit the end time of Loaves and Fishes. This will give everyone time to get to the library, take care of checking books in and out, sign up for prizes or take Accelerated Reader tests. Mondays will be Beat the Heat Family Movie, Tuesdays will be our Summer Reading Program, Wednesdays will be LEGO Club for grades K-6, and Thursdays will be Middle School Hangout for grades 6-8. Wednesday June 1st will be the first activity, which will be LEGO Club and Thursday June 2nd we will have the first Middle School Hangout. The first Beat the Heat Movie will be on June 6th and we will be showing Open Season Scared Silly which is rated PG and runs approximately 85 minutes. Our first Summer Reading Program will be on June 7th. Tuesday programs will last around 45 to 60 minutes. There will be stories, games, crafts and treats each week. We welcome kids of all ages and abilities. Just a reminder to parents, we love to have the library abuzz with children and activities, but we have a policy regarding unattended/unsupervised children. Children under the age of 12 may not be left unattended for more than an hour, unless they are attending a library program. The one hour time limit is intended to encourage children to be active during the summer, rather than sit in front of a computer for hours on end. We are happy to provide a safe place for children to hang out, read and even play on the computer, but we will be enforcing the unattended/unsupervised children policy and we thank you for helping us.

We are still looking for items to include in an Inventor Supply Lab for our first Summer Reading Program on June 7th. Most of the items we will need will be recycled materials. The Inventor Supply Lab will be filled with materials that children can use to design and create their own projects and inventions. We are currently accepting: empty and dry water, Gatorade, or pop bottles, cardboard tubes, wheels of any kind (which could include bottle caps, corks or any other round object), tape (masking, duct, electrical tape), cereal boxes, Kleenex boxes, packing supplies such as foam or bubble wrap, crafting supplies you may want to get rid of, hot glue guns, and anything else you think could be used to create something fun. We have a large box available for placing your donations in. We have been organizing the donations and there are a lot of really fun looking things. We have had a number of people donate some fabulous items so far, but we can still use more!

There is always something going on at the library. Check us out on Facebook or look us up on our website at http:www.blainecountylibrary.org for up to date information about what’s going on!
