We've Got The County Covered
Police Chief Elmer Zarn is warning locals to keep their vehicles locked overnight. He said a few incidents have been reported of someone entering unlocked vehicles, especially in the early morning hours. He added, “Whoever is doing this seems to be after cash or things they can turn into cash quickly. Credit cards and identifications aren’t being taken.”
Zarn said last week a county road employee, on their way to work before 6 am, discovered three abandoned purses lying at separate locations on city streets. The Chief explained, “The location of the purses suggested someone had systematically gone up and down the side streets looking for unlocked vehicles they could open and pilfer.”
Zarn said the best defense against this is type of petty thievery is to keep vehicles locked and make certain anything of value that must be left in a vehicle is secured and out of sight. So far the reports have been limited to the night time and Zarn believes, because of when the purses were recently discovered, the thefts are happening in the early morning hours in the period just before daylight.
