Information from unapproved board minutes.
The Chinook School Board meet on June 14. Two more resignations from Meadowlark staff were received. Several contracts were approved for summer cleaning staff, a Certified Teacher Contract for the summer and contracts for CHIPS members for both 2015-2106 and 2016-2017 school years. Classified staff contracts and additional Extracurricular contracts were also approved. Three school bus routes for 2016-2017 were tabled pending some corrections that needed to be made.
Chairwoman Miller called the meeting to order. Board members present were Scott Gunderson; Mark Harshman; Ernest Johnson; Pauly Miller; Joel Pruttis and Viki Tilleman. Scott DePriest was absent, excused.
Chairperson read resignation letters from Amanda Hurt and Hailey Kline. Meadowlark has four and one-half positions open at the elementary school. During the public comment period Chad Surber asked the board to consider incorporating high school coaching staff to oversee the junior high coaching staff which should make each level of sports more uniform. The consideration was positively received by the board.
A consent agenda was accepted. The consent agenda included approval of the minutes from the May 10 meeting and payment of activity warrants, electronic payroll and paper payroll. Payments were motioned and approved by the appropriate trustees.
Old Business
The board considered Policy 5015 on third reading. The new policy relates to Bullying/Harassment/Intimidation. This was the third reading of the policy. After some discussion the policy was motioned and approved. The 2016-2017 Elementary Student Handbook was approved by the elementary board. Superintendent Hannam clarified a point about insurance costs from last month, the clarification required no action.
New Business
A request for early graduation was presented on behalf of a student who will meet all requirements by May, 2017, one year early for the student. After a short meeting in closed session the request was motioned and approved.
Summer cleaning contracts were proposed for the following employees: Pam Darrah; Barbara Swenson; Heidi Brown (part-time); Leann Haider (part-time); JoEllen MacLean (part-time) and Gregory Martin (sub). Motioned and approved.
There were 2016-2017 Certified Teacher Contracts to be certified. Full board approved Hope Hamilton for Summer Traffic Education. Contracts for the 2015-2016 CHIPS team (an internal improvement group) had been overlooked, even though the group had been working during the academic year. CHIPS team members are: Laura Kellum (President); Tammy Edwards; Stacey Hasler; Jon Martin; Matt Molyneaux; Julie Terry; Kendall Harwood and Bonnie Ortner. The 2015-2016 contracts were approved by the board, and contracts were also approved for the 2016-2017 year.
The following 2016-2017 Classified Staff Contracts were recommended by the Superintendent: Cindy Bebee, paraprofessional; Jamie Berreth, paraprofessional; Pam Darrah, paraprofessional; Sherril Dockter, paraprofessional; Susan Erskine, paraprofessional; Jennifer Hass, paraprofessional; Leann Haider, paraprofessional; Ed Harrison, custodian; Dwight Hofeldt, custodian; JoEllen MacLean, paraprofessional; Gregory Martin, kitchen; Debra Olson, paraprofessional; Samantha Powell, kitchen; Debra Ramberg, paraprofessional; Judith Reed, custodian; Sue Reid, paraprofessional; /Barbara Swenson, kitchen and Kelly Warburton, paraprofessional. Recommendation was motioned and approved by board.
2016-2017 Extracurricular Contracts were recommended and approved. The Elementary Board approved Courtney Bell as Junior High Girls’ Basketball coach and Perry Miller as Junior High Wrestling coach (shared). The Full Board approved Levi Capdeville as High School Boys’ Assistant Basketball coach.
Superintendent Hannam recommended the approval of three bus routes for 2016-2017: Route #1, 110 miles per day: AM—East on Highway #2. Turn north onto Elloam Road. Travel north to Halingstad’s. Travel back south to Boldt Road and turn west to Dan and Miranda Skoyen’s. Return to Elloam Road and travel back to Highway #2 and then east to Began Road to Malsam’s and back to Highway #2 to Chinook. PM—Same route as AM but reversed.
Route #2, 106 miles per day: AM—East on Highway #2 to Zurich. Turn north into Zurich and loop around. Back to Highway #2 turning east to 8-mile Road. Traveling south across the Milk River, east on Feed Lot Road, return west to Paradise Valley Road and continue west on the Paradise Valley Road. South on the Barney Olson Road to New Hope Road. West to Cleveland Road (Secondary Highway 240). North on Cleveland Road to Chinook. PM—Same route as AM but reversed.
Route #3, 84.2 miles per day: AM—South on Clear Creek to Pomeroy’s. Back north turning onto Logie Road traveling north to Highway #2. West on Highway #2 north to Kleinjan’s and then south back onto Highway #2. Travel west to the Plainsman and turning around and traveling back east. Turn north on to Hall Road and drive the length of Hall Road and back to Highway #2. East back to Chinook. 40 miles. PM—south on Clear Creek Road to Prairie Road. South to the seed plant and then returning to Clear Creek Road and traveling south to Pomeroy’s. Back north turning onto Logie Road traveling north to Highway #2. West on Highway #2 north to Kleinjan’s and back onto Highway #2. Travel west to the Plainsman and turning around and traveling back east. Turn north onto Hall Road and drive the length of Hall Road and back to Highway #2. East back to Chinook. 44 miles. Board motioned and approved to table the bus routes until a correction could be made on the route to Kleinjan’s.
Superintendent presented the insurance proposal for 2016-2017 from MSGIA (The Montana School Group Insurance Authority). Proposal was for $33,357 for school year. Proposal was motioned and approved.
Chairperson announced next board meeting for June 28, at 7:30pm. Superintendent reported that a contract with Schoolhouse IT was negotiated, per board approval, for $34,485. School system scheduled to have six workers for two weeks beginning next week.
