We've Got The County Covered
Health Advisory for August, 2016. The city of Chinook is currently replacing fire hydrants and water distribution valves. The city’s water customers have a right to know what is being done to upgrade the system and how it may affect you.
The city’s water will be shut off on August 22 from 8 a.m. until 12 noon for the replacement of an aging fire hydrant and the installation of a new valve. Water service should return to normal with minimal interruptions to your service. Please be aware that you may experience air and discolored water in your plumbing.
Please run the water until cold and clear and do not consume until further instructed. Please listen to the radio or check our website http://www.cityofchinook.com for updates on the lifting of the health advisory. Use the bathtub for quicker draining and cleaning of the water system where you live. If water problems persist, please call: 357-3160
What should I do?
• You do not need to boil your water or take other actions, please do not drink. We do not know of any contamination, and none of our testing has shown disease-causing organisms in the drinking water.
• People with severely compromised immune systems, infants, and some elderly may be at increased risk. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
What does this mean?
• This is not an immediate risk. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately.
• Turbidity has no health effects. However, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth. Turbidity may indicate the presence of disease causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches.
What is being done?
• Operators are diligently working on the improvements to the distribution system. The public will be kept informed of the situation.
• We anticipate resolving the problem by August 22, 2016.
• Samples will be taken on August 22, 2016.
